EChO professional development funding

EChO in conjunction with CEASA funding has sponsored two highly successful country conferences. Marilyn attended and presented workshops at both the Mt. Gambier and Renmark conference. My presentations are aimed at Early Years educators 0-8 and challenge practitioners to evaluate their practice and ensure that their environments match their pedagogical beliefs and views of the child. I encourage educators to take risks and challenge the ‘sacred cows’ that prevail in early years education. At both conferences I received much positive feedback. However, more importantly EChO and CEASA helped these country regions to stage highly innovative and exciting conferences in the local area and these regions have expressed their gratitude.

Attending these conferences also allowed us the opportunity to network with early years educators from all sectors – Family Day Care, TAFE, Preschool, Child Care and J.P. staff. I think this networking is critical to our role in providing relevant professional development to these sectors. It also allowed me to listen to educators from overseas, interstate and intrastate and make judgments about possible speakers for future conferences. I strongly recommend that we continue to support these conferences as well as attend them in order to continue this important networking./p>

The New Zealand speakers (Toni and Robin Christie) at the Mt. Gambier conference were outstanding and shared some wonderful work they have done in developing outdoor learning areas. I am keen to invite them to speak at an EChO Conference next year along with Laura Rodriguez and Catherine Hunt from DECS Licensing in head office. They ran a workshop on ‘what is possible’ which received very positive feedback.
